Weekend Trip -Kali River Rafting and Trekking.

It had been a while since I took a break and did some serious stuff. So pulled out an exciting..adventorous River rafting n Trekkin @ Kali River with 8 other guys over the long weekend (April 29-May 1, 2006).
9 of us left Bangalore in a Tempo traveller on the evening of Apr 28 and covered 524 km to reach Dhandeli next morning. Dumped our baggage at the tented cottages, Kulgi Nature Camp; had a great native breakfast and prepared ourselves for the mission.
Reached Kali Adventure camp at 8:30 am, completed the formalities, got into the jeeps and drove 40 kms to reach the place where we would begin rafting.
Kali River - Level 3
"John Pollard", our guide gave us a long training session, by the end of which we were all itching to get inside the water. At last, we all got into our respective rafts. Did some training drills and precautionary stunts and then set off on our 14km long swing with the rapids. An adventurous time except for a while when Samson and I were thrown overboard while crossing a rapid and the wind was knocked out of our lungs. We were all sun burnt and exhausted by the time we reached calmer waters.
Relaxed ourselves to some chilled beer and a sumptuous lunch post that.

Other Activities
Trekked 15 kms inside Dhandeli Wildlife Sanctuary to visit Nagzhari falls and Sinteri Rocks. Climbed up and down 730 steps to reach the Kavala Caves and did a little bit of mountain hiking too. N all this in sweltering and nerve-sapping conditions.
To top it all a 1250 km somewhat bumpy journey in just over 2 days.
